Instead, speaking
the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into Him, who is the
Head, that is Christ.

Our First Meeting in Perry |
| Who are Lutherans? |
On
October 31, 1517 an obscure monk in Wittenberg, Germany would send a
message that would forever change the course of history. This young
monk, Martin Luther, searched the Scriptures to ease his anxieties
about his sin and his salvation. Only by becoming a priest was he
able to see for himself what the Medieval Church had lost sight of in
the Scriptures. Based on his rediscovery, with hammer and nail in
hand, Luther then posted a document on the door of a church in
Wittenberg.
This document and others that followed would explain
how the Church had turned away from salvation in Christ alone. “Grace
alone, Faith alone, Scripture alone” would become the battle cry of the
Reformation. And with the blow of his hammer which nailed his
Ninety-Five Theses upon the door, shock waves were sent across the
Western empire.
Lutherans then are Christians who have followed in
this unwavering confession of faith founded in the Word of God.
