Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into Him, who is the Head, that is Christ.

1 Peter 2:4-10 (NIV) The Living Stone and a Chosen People
4 As you come to him, the living Stone—rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to him— 5 you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

God is at work in middle Georgia. A new wall was constructed in God’s spiritual house Sunday, June 18. The Florida-Georgia District of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod together with Mount Calvary Lutheran Church of Warner Robins, parent church of the Christ Lutheran Perry/Kathleen Mission Outreach, presented God’s newest Christian church to the world at the National Fairgrounds in Perry.

Pastor Steve Schave, mission developer of Christ Lutheran, led the 2 o’clock celebratory charter service in the Roquemore Conference Center with around 120 in attendance. Reverend David Brighton, pastor of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, represented the Florida-Georgia District and welcomed Christ Lutheran to the LCMS family.

The theme of the charter service was that although Christ was the living stone that was rejected, He truly is the cornerstone of God's Spiritual house - the church.  The message to the charter members and friends of Christ Lutheran was that God can take a castle of sand, made up of fallible people who have the shifting sands of the world as their foundation, and form it into an insurmountable wall of living stones when Jesus Christ is the cornerstone. Pastor Schave spoke of the mighty things this small wall of living stones can do. Just as a little shepherd boy named David slew Goliath, Pastor Schave related “…our shepherd Jesus, needs nothing more than his slingshot of love, mercy and compassion along with a handful of smooth stones pulled from the streams of baptism to lay low the enemy, to break through a heart of stone. And that’s what we’ll do, one heart at a time. Now is the time: get ready for the slingshot ride of your life, living stones!”

Shortly after the sermon, those who wished to become members of Christ Lutheran were asked to come forward and sign the charter. Each charter member received a stone to help remind them of God’s commitment to us and how they were chosen to be a living stone in Christ's church.
