Pastor Steve Schave has been assigned as the mission developer for Christ Lutheran Church in Perry/Kathleen. He is originally from Perrysburg, Ohio (a suburb of Toledo). Before entering the seminary, he had a decade of management experience in the business and systems consulting industry. He has a Computer Engineering degree from The Ohio State University and an Executive MBA from the University of Toledo. He completed his Master of Divinity degree from Concordia Theological Seminary in Ft. Wayne in 2006. While at the Seminary, Pastor Schave served as a professor in the College of Business at Indiana Institute of Technology. Pastor Schave was selected by LCMS North American Missions and CTS-FW as one of eight students for the Missionary Formation program. Leadership, entrepreneurship, and management skills are key qualifications for being selected for this program. However, he feels the most important qualities to possess for this work include having a passion for God's Word and a heart for missions.
Although Pastor Schave is somewhat new to Perry, GA he was raised in her sister city of Perrysburg, OH which rests off the shores of Lake Erie where Commodore Perry's lore is legendary. [Perry received its name from Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry for his triumph at Lake Erie in the War of 1812.]
Deaconess Kim Schave will be assisting with the development of this new congregation initially in the area of administration, and thereafter supporting the church's human care efforts within the Kathleen/Perry community. She is originally from Oregon, Ohio (a suburb of Toledo) and received a BBA degree in Accounting from the University of Cincinnati. She received an M.A. degree in Religion in 2006 from Concordia Theological Seminary in Ft. Wayne. Before entering into Deaconess studies, she was a full-time mother, worked from home as a CPA and also taught college accounting and business courses. Her background includes experience in public accounting and non-profit accounting with emphasis in higher education budget administration and church finance. She served as a Board Member/Treasurer and Volunteer Counselor for several years with a pregnancy care center and currently serves as Director of the Pregnancy Resource Center of Warner Robins. Deaconesses "bring a uniquely feminine care, perceiving need and responding with gentle helpfulness, expressing the compassion of Christ in a tender, nurturing way. Serving alongside the pastor, she attends to those in need and dwells with them. Using her skillful capability and theological training, she embodies Christ's incarnational care in the midst of suffering." (taken from www.ctsfw.edu/academics/deaconess) Also known as the "little
shavers", the Schaves have four children. Their four children attend
Matt Arthur Elementary School. They also
had twin sons, Joshua and Zachary, who were taken to their heavenly home after
just one day on this earth. |
